The Great Hall of the Lord Leycester has been used for seven centuries by Warwick towns folk and their guests as a place of entertaining and socializing.  But it is in a poor state of repair and we want to restore it!  We want the Great Hall to go on being a central hub and a place to hold special events and celebrations.
In 1617 King James visited Warwick. He was invited to a banquet by Sir Fulke Greville however Sir Greville was living at Warwick Castle and it was in ruins. So the Lord Leycester Hospital's Great Hall was volunteered for the banquet.  After this momentous event the Great Hall became known as the King James Hall. The feast was a three day affair and it took the people of Warwick ten years to pay for the Kings banquet. Sir Fulke Greville had a plaque of the occasion made and put on the wall for the event. Today that plaque, or seal, has been covered  up by a false wall.  We want to "Reveal the Seal" so it is on display for all to see from the Great Hall. We are holding a magnificent Charity Banquet in true King James style on November 3, 7 PM in the Great Hall at the Lord Leycester to raise funds to conserve the Great  Hall.  This event will also coincide with the 400th anniversary of King James 1 visit to Warwick in 1617.
