Volunteers play an important role at the Lord Leycester, helping us remain a welcoming and active part of the Warwick community.
Whether supporting visitors, caring for the gardens, assisting with events, or helping behind the scenes, our volunteers are part of the daily life of one of the world’s oldest veterans’ charities.

Front of House Volunteers
Our Front of House volunteers help provide a warm welcome to visitors at the Lord Leycester by supporting the ticket office and gift shop.
Working alongside staff and volunteers, you will often be the first point of contact for visitors and play an important role in helping guests enjoy their experience of one of the world’s oldest veterans’ charities.

Engagement Volunteers
Our Visitor Engagement volunteers help bring the history of the Lord Leycester to life by sharing stories, answering questions, and supporting activities both on site and at outreach events.
Working alongside staff and volunteers, the Engagement Team helps visitors connect with over 900 years of history in an informative and welcoming way.

Garden and Grounds Volunteers
Our Gardens & Grounds volunteers help care for and develop the historic gardens of the Lord Leycester through a range of hands-on gardening and maintenance tasks.
Working within more than 500 years of garden history, volunteers support the upkeep of the grounds through planting, pruning, weeding, landscaping, and seasonal projects throughout the year.

Collections and Research Volunteers
Our Collections & Research volunteers help improve access to the Lord Leycester’s archives and collections while contributing to ongoing research into the site’s history and heritage.
Volunteers support projects involving cataloguing, archival research, interpretation, and the development of our understanding of the Lord Leycester and the people connected to it throughout its history.

Corporate Volunteers
Corporate volunteer groups provide valuable support to the Lord Leycester by helping with practical projects across the site, particularly within our historic buildings, gardens, and grounds.
Volunteering with us offers a fantastic opportunity for teams to step away from the workplace, spend time together, and make a meaningful contribution to a local charity and heritage site. Projects can be tailored to suit different group sizes and abilities.

Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering
Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering
The Lord Leycester welcomes participants completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award at Bronze, Silver, and Gold level.
Duke of Edinburgh volunteers gain valuable experience while supporting one of the world’s oldest veterans’ charities. Opportunities may include working with visitors, assisting with events, helping care for the historic site, and supporting a range of activities across the organisation.
As placements are limited, we are normally only able to accommodate one Duke of Edinburgh volunteer at a time.

Work Experience
The Lord Leycester offers work experience placements for those interested in gaining insight into the operation of a working heritage site and charity.
Placements are tailored to the individual and typically provide experience across a range of departments, including visitor services, operations, marketing, archives, guided tours, events, and gardens and grounds.
Work experience placements are flexible and usually take place over 3–5 days, offering participants the opportunity to develop new skills and gain experience in a variety of areas.
