Our Great Hall Talks bring together historians, authors, academics, creatives and industry experts in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, designed to spark curiosity, discussion and new perspectives.
Whether you’re interested in history, culture, current affairs or the arts, each event offers the opportunity to hear from fascinating speakers in the unique surroundings of the Great Hall.
Standard tickets (£15) include:

- An arrival drink
A limited number of Premium Tickets are also available for selected events, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy a post-talk supper with the speaker.

The Gurkhas: 200+ Years of Service to the British Crown
Join us for the first of our newly launched Great Hall Talks, as the Lord Leycester’s newly appointed 34th Master, Dr Daren Bowyer, explores the remarkable history of the Gurkhas and their enduring relationship with Britain.
Having taken up the role of Master in March 2026, Daren previously served as Director of the Gurkha Museum in Winchester, where he led a major National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported transformation project. Drawing on his extensive knowledge and experience, this talk traces more than two centuries of Gurkha service to the British Crown.
Discover how a conflict that began with the Anglo-Nepal War of 1814–1816 evolved into one of military history’s most enduring partnerships. From fierce adversaries to trusted allies, Gurkhas have served with distinction for over 200 years and continue to play an important role in the British Army today.
